EMusic Mix Tapes

In the style of the old mix tapes we all used to create from LPs or radio tracks, here's an update for the mp3 generation. It's designed for people who are subscribers to EMusic and if you're not, then why not?

Gothic Sounds from Metal Roots (by Dawtrina)

This is very much influenced by MMA's indie pop mixes and I've followed his format pretty closely.

The order here really matters. I've tried to design this so that the tracks flow effortlessly into each other yet evolve into new directions throughout. And there are plenty of those.

The bands here are all firmly rooted in heavy metal but have matured into a more gothic realm, though with other influences too. There's folk here from various cultures, plenty of keyboards and violins, and some interplay between harsh male and delicate female vocals.

It's also designed to build in intensity towards the middle, then ramp off to a melancholy finale. Hopefully it's not what you'd expect from metal bands and it opens new doors for you. That the first seven tracks are all on Napalm Records is pure coincidence but telling nonetheless.

First in a series of strange experimental music mixes I am compiling inspired by Dawtrina's extreme music threads. These 15 tracks were selected, compiled as a playlist, then randomly shuffled and resulted in this final list.

Experimental electronic music. Warning: some music contains extreme frequencies and sounds and may be harmful to equipment and ears when played at high volumes.
